Where to report scams and fraud
M0N3Y Scam Lab is not a reporting agency. Use these official channels to file a complaint, get follow-up advice, or trigger a fraud investigation.
FTC — ReportFraud.ftc.gov
Report scams, frauds, and bad business practices to the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC shares reports with thousands of law-enforcement agencies.
FBI IC3
The Internet Crime Complaint Center is the FBI intake for cyber-enabled fraud and scams — phishing, business email compromise, romance scams, investment fraud.
CFPB — Submit a Complaint
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau handles complaints about banks, credit cards, money transfers, virtual currency services, debt collection, and similar financial products.
AARP Fraud Helpline
Free helpline for adults of any age — talk to a fraud specialist about a situation you or a family member is facing.
IdentityTheft.gov
Report identity theft and get a personalized recovery plan if your information was used to open accounts or take loans.
If money has already been sent
- Contact your bank or payment platform immediately. Use the phone number on the back of your card, not a number from the message.
- If a check was deposited, ask the bank to put a hold on the funds.
- Change any compromised passwords and enable multi-factor authentication.
- File a report with the FTC and, for cybercrime, the FBI IC3.
- Do not pay anyone offering to recover the funds — recovery services are themselves a common follow-on scam.
